Welcome to the blog of Can Sar, a Stanford CS major. This blog is made up of my thoughts on Computer Science and the computer industry, as well as ever exciting tales from my life.
For all you second floor Lorons, I finally gave in to the pressure and watched Bend it like Beckham. I have to agree, it is in fact not a documentary. I thought the movie was great, fun to watch, and defintely one of the best comedies I have seen lately. Although I don't think that David Beckham is a good soccer player, and wasn't initerested in the Indian culture part too much, I very much enjoyed the entire Shakespearean comedy of errors thing. Most modern comedies are just low humor, along the lines of the ever so terrible American Pie, it's nice to see something different.
At the video rental store I also saw a tape and a DVD for Battle Royal, which was very shocking. I remember every moment of the night Albert, Brendan, Curt, Doug and me watched the movie. Brendan had downloaded the movie and I walked in while they were watching it and decided to watch too. Afterwards Brendan deleted the movie, so no one else in the dorm could watch it. All of us were philosophically inclined, but it in the end we decided that maybe there are questions in life that should never be asked. Many of the questions posed by Battle Royal fall into this category. Although Battle Royal posed interesting questions, the basic premise was scary enough to make us decided that no one in the dorm should ever watch it. I think that having it in a video rental store, where unknowing people might rent it, is a very bad idea.
And finally, Nora's DVD player broke yesterday, so we had to watch Bend it like Beckham on German VHS. I hope we can get it fixed soon.

i'm glad you watched bend it like beckham though. i don't know why you were ever against it! what did you mean by not being interested in the indian culture part? the cultural clash was the major plot point.

I would normally agree with you, and bet if I was not part of the same group, I would make the same comment. However, I invite you to see this movie and then maybe you can see where Can Sar is coming from. Retrospectively, I really wonder if I should have watched that movie. Who knows. Actually, maybe you shouldn't watch it because that shit is FUCKED UP.
If you seriously want to become messed up in the brain, by all means, rent the movie. We just decided that we didn't want the people in Loro killing each other, and a lot of the people in the dorm are wayyyy too immature for it not to affect them a great deal.
