A student in my seminar with John McCarthy had a theory that the architect in The Matrix reloaded was modeled after Professor McCarthy. From what I hear, he liked the idea, although I had to miss class that day. I am, however, a bit sceptical about the whole thing. Professor McCarthy looks similar to the architect, and like him is one of the fathers of AI, but that's pretty much where the similarity ends. They behave and speak very differently, and even the AI analogy is a stretch.
