| Biosketch: Carole Mawson has taught full time at Stanford University since 1989. She teaches courses in pronunciation, written and spoken English to graduate students, and during summers, she is the coordinator of California Classic, a program for international visitors at Stanford University. Mawson's main areas of interest are pronunciation and intonation. She obtained a B.A. degree with honors in English and French from the University of Michigan, an M.A.T. in French from Harvard University, and did further study in Linguistics at New York University on an NDEA fellowship. She spent her junior year in Paris, studying at the Sorbonne, and two years in Colombia, South America, as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English in a university. She has taught French and Spanish, and wrote and produced television and radio programs in Spanish. Among her other interests are competing as a master's triathlete, running marathons, traveling around the world, taking literature courses at Stanford's Continuing Studies Department, and advising freshmen and sophomores at Stanford. |
