5. Yosemite 4/22-23/95, with Paul Friberg. A comedy of forgotten stuff: - my hiking boots (we lost 1 hour returning to house for them) - Paul's crack climbing shoes (used slippers instead), and chalk bag - trail to El Cap bivvy - ended up at base of Negative Pinnacle Sat: - Bishop's Terrace 5.8 - Cookie - very crowded, first dry weekend in awhile - arching sport route 5.11d (Paul flashed) - on slab/boulder at road - Butterfingers 5.11a TR, after hiking to top of crag - Bev's Tower 5.10a (Paul led), slightly wet in places - yikes! - Aftershock 5.11b TR (Clint, still with a hang at final roof) Sun: - The Good Book 5.10d - p1 5.8 (Clint led, aiding wet start) - p2 5.10a (Paul) - p3 5.10d (Clint led, but aided almost entire way, taking 2+ hours, while poor Paul began to shiver in the shade ... uh-oh). But Paul got burly points for sticking it out free on TR, after being ready to hang 6' from the rest. - p4 5.10c (Paul) short hard section to reach the hand traverse flake; brief hang to get in good gear. I nearly blew off following. I think it used to have a wedged flake there that could be grabbed. - Nutcracker 5.8 - very crowded. p3 (off big ledge) was extremely wet and slick -- I thought I was going to blow off for sure following. At the tree belay, we could see there were several parties queued for the mantle, so we traversed straight left to the big RFC. Then we moved left to its arete, and followed a nice solitary thin crack.
