Pinnacles: Cosmos, Ranger Bolts Halfway 3/30/91 After last-minute Friday afternoon arrangements and re-arrangements, I went down on Saturday with Chris Bellizzi. Feeling somewhat out of shape from the recent rainy weather, we went for volume rather than spending time on new routes. We did: Mammary Pump 5.11a/b, Cosmos 5.11b, The Verdict 5.11a/b, Future Shock 5.12b, Ranger Bolts Halfway 5.11d, Foreplay 5.11a/b, POD 5.10d/ 5.11a, and Cantaloupe Death 5.10c. Chris led all the routes, generating a big pump. All I led was Cosmos (Chris led it afterwards with draws in place) and the last clip on Ranger Bolts Halfway. I took a hang on Future Shock -- Chris' beta helped keep me from flailing too bad this time. We both had hangs at the crux move of Ranger Bolts Halfway; I'd like to TR the upper part sometime. Chris led Cantaloupe Death as it was getting rather dark (hard to see the bolts or footholds!), and he took a good snooze on the drive home. A lot of people were down there soaking in the rays and getting that volcanic pump. We saw Alfred and Chris Donahue on Entrance, later taking wingers on Rocket in My Pocket (now harder than 5.10c after a key hold broke) and Cantaloupe Death; Andy and Vickie did the finish to Jorgie's Crack (does the 5.10b rating seem OK?), Barry Bates smoothly TRed Verdict Direct, Rita Look flashed (pinkpoint -- draws in place) Future Shock, and Don finished the day with 3-4 continuous laps up and down POD (by that time of day, I was barely making it *up* on TR!). Also saw Joe Schiefman, Wags, Charlie Schreck, and more RCS folks (Lea, Tim, ...). Amazing that we didn't have to wait in line for anything, and temps were great in the shade. Putting up with Chris B's occasional loud babbling was just a minor annoyance -- a good pump was had by all, and we even swapped wall stories (he's done Iron Hawk and the P.O.).
