Pinnacles: Yaks Wall 12/8/90 Subject: Chute-out at Yaks Wall Went to the Yaks Wall (Pinnacles) with Jon McConachie on Saturday. On the approach hike we could see Don + Wayne on Pistol Whipped even before there was sun on the wall (impressive route total for the day, guys!). We did the 40' arete Reach for the Sky 5.10a, then we did 4 waterchutes (Jon had been on the FA of 3 of them): Tato Pani 5.9, Dance on a Volcano 5.10b, Split Infinity 5.10b/c, and Shoot the Tube 5.9. Dance gave me some anxious moments, with steep smaller knobs to a semi-mantle, and then blankish runout stemming on the upper crux which I avoided with a desperate reach move. Split Infinity was the best route, with overhanging big knobs at first, then blank stems in places to the final bombay finish (I yarded on a loose flake and a breaking dry bush before grabbing the belay slings). No falls or crowds; some pigeons and a hawk plus a descent of the slabs in the dark (glad for beta from Jon!).
