Donner:  Rainbow, Goldilocks, Snowshed   7/14-15/90
Subject:      Donner rain festival

We went up with Alice, Andy, and Bruce Fortnam; saw 7 people I knew up there,
too.  Before going, I prepared a mini-guide by merging the info from latest
Rock&Ice with Tahoe Rock and 82 Gene Drake guide -- 264 routes.
Saturday: went to Rainbow area -- A+A did Lockbuster 5.9 (Alice fell on
traverse), B+C+N did Dark Special 5.10a low angle arete.  Then we got a
thunderstorm (waited out worst of it under trees).  Will have to return for
Aja (5.10d thin).  Regrouped at Snowshed, where it was starting to rain,
then drove to check out Twin Crags (near North Lake Tahoe),
but the rain was getting really heavy so we retreated to Donner Summit.
When it let up, we toproped McDuff's (5.10d) and a 5.11a to its left (McFlakes,
FA by Nancy -- tr flash), after
failing to lead either (Andy and Clint).  Then on to Goldilocks wall to
bag a few lines before dark.  Hot Shit 5.10b (all), Mama Bear (C free, N+B+
Andy hangs), Papa Bear 5.11b/c (C).
Sunday: Rapid Transit 5.8 (A+A, Alice fell on traverse...), Jam Session 5.10b
(all, Alice hang).  Nancy tried to lead Aerial 5.11b, but couldn't reach to
make the second clip (bring cheater stick next time).  She took 2 whippers
(her first leader falls ever).  Somebody else led it,
then N+B+Andy tr'ed with hangs.  Molar Concentration 5.10b (A+B),
Composure (Alice+C), The Thing 5.10d/5.11a (C tr).  Bruce started to lead
Karl's Gym 5.10c/d, but it started to rain.  The rain never got hard and then
let up, so we finished at Goldilocks again.  Baby Bear 5.10a (all), Goldilocks
(C free, N 1 hang).

p.s. Renata "bouldered" and even made a dash in front of an oncoming car,
giving Nancy and Alice heart attacks.
