Yosemite: Cookie, Kor-Beck 5/14-16/90 Subject: short week in Valley I only spent 3 days in the Valley instead of a week, as things were not going quite as I'd planned and I was eager to get back to work. Brinton, as Dan had warned, was not ready for Astroman. Plus, he needed to climb with Tom Davis, his partner for the Ogre expedition. This left me to climb with Michael, which was OK but not how I'd like to spend vacation days. Monday: Did first 4 on East Buttress of Middle. Too windy for shorts. Then Brinton tried to lead Outer Limits. He wasn't using his feet well, and didn't reach the main hand crack. I led it, plus the second pitch, where he did some major dogging. Tuesday: Did 1/2 of Catchy, Bev's Tower, Wheat Thin, Hara Kiri, and Yin Yang tr with Michael, as Tom led Brinton up Waverley, Butterballs, and Manana. Wednesday: All 4 of us did the first 8 pitches of the Kor-Beck. Tom insists this is a great route, but the rest of us knew better (many bushes and awkward chimney-corners). I may try to get together w/ Brinton on 5/29/30 for Astroman if he gets in good enough shape (he's certainly improving but needs help on lead).
