Tahquitz Rock with Nancy and her dad 5/26-28/90 Avoided the rain for Saturday and Sunday by being south, but no such luck on Monday. Only did 2 pitches Saturday (The Wong Climb 5.8), due to late start and bad driving route. Met TM Herbert, though -- he's very friendly. On Sunday, we had the drive and approach hike down to 2.5 hours, so we jumped on Sahara Terror 5.6 (7-8 pitches). We had to pass some turkeys who were on the 2nd pitch when we started, and were still on it when we were on the 5th! Fortunately there are many parallel crack systems, so we found a nice variation around them. I was soloing while Nancy was leading, to save time, but I dragge d a 9mm rope and got belayed on the crux pitches. I remember from soloing Limelight at the Gunks that 5.6 is non-trivial! Then we did the Ski Tracks 5.5 very classic steep knobscape. It was starting to get cloudy at 5pm so we went down, noting from the parking lot that the turkeys were still 2 pitches from the top. Didn't see anybody doing hard routes there -- must all be at J Tree these days.
