Mickey's Beach, Pinnacles High Peaks recon 4/28-29/90 Saturday: Mickey's Beach with Bill Wagner, Nancy, Alice, Sean, Doug Dolginow, Angie D, baby Alexander D, Renata. Windy, but at least the sun was out. Flailed slightly more than usual on Scorpio and Sturgeon/Turgidifier, because I forgot to bring my Fires. I got to about the same height by just wearing my hiking boots -- demonstrates that my foot technique is not helpful on these routes. Later I borrowed Doug's Ninjas and got one move higher on both. Wags, Nancy, and Alice got to about the same high points (N+A didn't try Scorpio). Good pump though. The 5.10 on the NW face saw a lot more action, with a few falls at the slippery crux. Should have set up Rust Never Sleeps first, before tide came in, but I arrived late and couldn't advise. Joel -- any beta from Jim Thornburg on which are the two bolted routes on R side of wall (3 routes listed -- Sturgeon, Turgidifier, and Nancy). The finish of the left of those two seems baffling -- chalked blank corner above good pinch -- can't see how to use it. Got up to sidecling dynos on the right route -- seems more like 5.12c than 5.11d, but not sure if "Nancy" goes to right. Doug wants some Valley action -- maybe Mescalito with me and John?? Sunday: High Peaks recon with David Rubine. Checked out area north of Resurrection Wall -- has 3 actual routes (all <= 5.8). Continued on trail to High Peaks outhouse, where I think I located Crap Chute (on "Casino Rock"). Repeated a 5.10a on Flatiron, located routes on S+N Fingers and Condor Crags (will have to do more when bird closure ends). TRed Holmgren routes on Burgundy Dome (will be *** after more cleaning) and on Freedom Dome; located Holmgren route on Proclamation. David replaced a poor bolt on Freedom Dome. By this time it was windy and cold, but we got a lot done. No more Pinnacles recons for awhile, but at this point, we can do a lot of it at home (finishing topos, etc.).
