Pinnacles: High Peaks recon 3/18/90 I met David Rubine (author of the upcoming guide) and Tom Davis at the West Side Lot at 9:30 for a recon of the High Peaks. These two have put up about 8 new 5.12 routes in the Pinnacles. On the hike up we located the "next to Resurrection" area of the JR guide -- it's north of Resurrection. We didn't get a close look at it, though. Stopped at Proclamation Pinnacle where David led Adrenaline Junkies 5.10b/c somewhat loose (I followed). Tom is still out of action with a finger injury. We checked out a new project on the backside of Sidehorse (essentially a bolt ladder); also saw a 2-bolt variation to Freedom Dome which ends at a strange belay halfway up. The latter was the only High Peaks route in the JR guide which existed and was new. Moved on to the Tuff Dome area, where I led Aliens Ate My Buick 5.10c chalkless (I figured we wouldn't be doing anything hard). Many pinch and sloper holds. Saw some new route possibilities there, soloed one of them. On to Burgundy Dome, which has great incut holes -- soloed partway up the Rappel Route and located one of 3 bolts on Vin Ordinaire. Pluvius Pinnacle looks like it would go free, as would the Wedge. We all soloed the Sponge via various unbolted lines; this also had good pockets. On the way down we checked out a new project on Chaos Crags which has 2 bolts and a long steep line of large pockets . Unfortunately it is closed due to nesting until after the spring. There are lots of nice moderate routes up there, including new route possibilities.
