Yosemite - November 1987 Another early archived email trip report -- was sent from TSPINTL AT SUWATSON.BITNET to palais at lbl-csam.arpa (Bob Palais) on 12/2/1987 Bob, Wow -- we finally have the connection (I will send the correct address on to Joel). On that Monday, Dan led the Fringe and I tried to lead the new finish, but I only got about 12' before getting scared on the stemming. Dan went up and fired it. He claimed it was only 5.9, but the first part is about 5.10b wiht good locks but nothing for the feet, and the last move is 5.10c/d wide stemming with tips in, and reaching far right for a bucket (I almost blew even after getting the jug). I don't use chalk anymore (all year so far), and Dan went too fast to dip. Someone was up there before us -- my rap sling was moved. There's still a little dirt, but hopefully this will get washed out this winter. We were leaning towards calling it Beyond the Fringe. Sorry we didn't leave word -- you should have checked it out. We never made it to Rixon's -- we took off at 3pm for the 8 hour drive to Las Vegas. Maybe we'll do Rixon's this weekend if it's sunny. [Dan Nguyen and I had run into Bob Palais and Marc Sheppard when camping in Merced Canyon] ... Clint
