Note: the current (2.95 mile) Crystal Springs course was established in 1971 and used in fall 1971, according to archived results checked on 2007/11/7 by Hank Lawson.
The 2006 edition of the Crystal records page says the 1972 course has stayed the same, and the 1971 course was slightly longer. So the 1971 times should be equal or slightly slower in comparison, assuming the hills didn't change.

The course was a flat 5 mile loop in Burlingame, CA. See photo below.
"Ran four marathons in six weeks" (not sure what year - probably winter 1971-72?).
