Elephant's Perch Rock Climbs - Sawtooths, Idaho
all Sawtooths rock climbs
These topos were drawn by Reid Dowdle, and most of them were copied
at the climbing store in Ketchum, Idaho,
called The Elephant's Perch, in 8/1991. For the routes that we
did (starred), I made minor additions to the topos.
These topos were simply scanned at 300 DPI and cleaned up slightly.
No attempt has been made to make them easily printable.
All the color overlay photos, plus the topos for Splittgerber-March Direct,
Trunkline, The Wendy, and Sideline
are also from the above climbing store, courtesy of Brad Brandewie.
1991 trip report: we did Astro Elephant free, and then aided the
single 5.11a moves on The Fine Line, and Myopia by pulling on gear.
We also got rained off of the Direct Beckey, with rappel points
indicated on the topo. My climbing partner, Hal Tompkins, remarked
that climbing on Elephant's Perch was the finest backcountry rock
climbing in his experience.
Climbing #204 (6/2001) has topos for six of these routes,
some first ascent information, and describes other climbs in the Sawtooths.
