Pine Canyon, Castle Rock Area
The Castle Rock Area in Pine Canyon is one of the oldest
climbing areas around Mount Diablo State Park. The
sandstone faces are big here. Some of the routes at
Pine Canyon are a full pitch long (~150' high). Because
the area has not seen much activity, the rock is covered
with loose flakes. There are no direct official trails
to the rocks. The best access is to park along North
Gate Road at the sign that states that you are in Mount
Diablo State Park. This is about 1.5 miles south of the
Entrance Station. Follow trails south to a small valley
then walk up the center of the valley to the ridge line.
