Castle Rock Area
Castle Rock is the most widely known and used climbing location in
the South Bay. The main rock has been climbed since the turn of
the century and Goat Rock has seen climbing since the 1940s. The rocks
in this area are erosion sculpted sandstone, with caves and roofs that
can be climbed upside down by pinching the interior honeycomb
structure. Other rocks in the same area offer as many possibilities
but receive less traffic. Some rocks were not included as requested
by Castle Rock Park rangers due to erosion problems. Because of
heavy use of this area it is important to practice
low impact climbing.
