STANFORD EES: CEE 276E SPRING 2010

Brief Overview

Survey of chemicals present in the environment that pose toxicity risk. Introduction to environmental toxicology principles for identifying and characterizing toxicants based on sources, properties, pathways and toxic action. Discussion of selected past and present environmental toxicant issues.

Requirements

There are two types of requirements that you should know about. One is the course pre-requisites in inorganic and organic chemistry, particularly nomenclature, bonding and structures. The other is a "team attitude requirement" where you have to be able to adjust and respond to the collaborative environment. The pace will fluctuate, schedules will sometimes get tight, and workload can get really heavy. You will be placed in "no-excuses" and "can-do" situations, and you must do your best critical and strategic thinking to perform well.

Limited Enrollment

Last year, I found that too many students in the group is an issue. I intend to limit enrollment to 15 students for Spring 2010. If we end up with more than this, there will be extra meetings outside the assigned schedule.
