Using Google Earth to Display Census Data

gCensus is an effort to make geographic data freely and easily accessible to the public, without the need for expensive GIS software packages. gCensus leverages the power of Google Earth to display its maps. Parameters can be selected through a web interface, which then generates a kmz file to download and open in Google Earth.

This project is done by Stanford Grad Imran Haque. Here is his article from ExtremeTech.

The "other" gCensus project, which is based on the Google Maps API appears to be currently down.
