Learning Goals and Activities

  • Get to know features of major software packages that are relevant for archaeology research and acquire basic skills to use those
How: provide technology skill training focused on archaeology problems
Activities: interact with the software/tools, outside-class hands-on sessions, access documentation/manuals, reference material

  • Obtain experience in archaeology software supported data modeling, data interpretation, and data presentation techniques
How: practice data modeling, analysis, interpretation, presentation,
Activities: practice exemplary activities provided by faculty

  • Acquire critical assessment skills of tools and methods, interpretation of other's models, back-interpretation, critical assessment of models
How: evaluate weaknesses and strengths of the software tools and models
    Activities: critical discussion, comparison

  • Get a sense of the "messy-ness" of archaeology field research which involves computational modeling and imaging, be able to find solutions if "things don't work"
How: provide experiential environment as close as possible to real life experience, design classroom as "archaeology research station"
Activities: gather real data or work with real data and deal with real life challenges
