Assignment 4 - Process
For this assignment, I wanted everything to be linked. The music should fit the words, the words should describe the music and images should portray the words and sounds.
In this piece, there are three different sections which can be identified by a change in words, sound and image.
The song is arranged as an intro, a breakdown and a main section. These can be identified by the change in texture in the instrumentation.
The words are a haiku that I wrote while listening to the song and writing how I felt while listening. It goes as follows:
"Freedom of mind
Happiness and sorrow
Each line marks a new section in the piece, and matches the arrangement in the music.
The images (or animation) play a much more secondary role, but are still essential to the feeling of the piece. Predictable and constant images tend to elongate the perception of time, while fast and choppy images tend to speed time up. The constant looping wave makes the piece feel longer and plays on the perception of the audience. It is supposed to calm the audience and make the piece flow much better. The minimal theme I have engaged in past pieces comes back in this one. The blakc and white contrast is the second image I chose to use. I feel that a little goes a long way, and having such a simple display really makes you focus on the words. The animation on the words is the 3rd image. The pulsations of the words and the order in which they disappear reinforces the meaning of the words and how they fit in describing the mood of the music.
