The main areas of interest of the laboratory are muscle stem cell biology (myogenic lineage progression, cell fate determination, Notch signaling, Wnt signaling), muscular dystrophies (disease pathogenesis, gene therapy), age-related muscle atrophy (molecular and cellular mechanisms of atrophy, muscle stem cell aging), and basic muscle cell biology (integrin signaling and cytoskeletal organization during growth and regeneration). The Rando laboratory is a part of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The laboratory is located at the VA Medical Center where it is also part of the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). Funding for the research comes from the NIH (NINDS and NIA), the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Federation for Aging Research, and the Ellison Medical Foundation.
