
I am Associate Director of the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies and the Mediterranean Studies Forum at Stanford University.
I received my Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan, my M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago,
and my B.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey).
My research interests include sociology of religion, modernization, gender, nationalism and empires,
comparative historical sociology, Cold War, United States, Turkey, Middle East.
