Bet you always wondered!

Yes, at long last, the truth is out: "Skippy" is the real name of the canine star of "The Thin Man" series, "Bringing Up Baby", and "The Awful Truth". Skippy is best known for playing Asta, Nick and Nora Charles' ubiquitous sidekick in the Thin Man movies (although Skippy himself played Asta in only about the first 4 of those).

TriBaby's best friend and faithful crew is nicknamed after this clever pooch who always exhibited, as Skippy likes to put it, "Asta Attitude." As mentioned above, Skippy was a busy dog in the 'Thirties, as he also played George alongside Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant in "Bringing Up Baby," and Mr. Smith or "Smitty" with Cary and Irene Dunne in "The Awful Truth." Sharp cinemaphiles will recall that he also played a ghostly companion to the comical spectre of Joan Blondell as the deceased Marion Kerby in "Topper Takes a Trip."
