NPDP Internet information system and dam performance evaluation system
Principal Investigator: Ronaldo I. Borja
Project Director: Martin W. McCann, Jr.
Project Sponsor: Federal Emergency Management Agency
Project Summary
This project seeks to operate and maintain the National Performance of Dams Program (NPDP) at Stanford University. There are two objectives for this work. The first objective is to support and assist Stanford University in the evaluation of dam incident data currently in the NPDP archives and to identify causes of dam incidents and failures. The second objective is to support and assist Stanford University in its long-term goal to develop a comprehensive process to evaluate NPDP data. This evaluation process will provide valuable input to issues as basic as the need for dam safety (as might be argued in state legislatures and Congress), the assessment of future dam safety work loads, public risks, etc. This process is comparable to other national programs that report on a regular basis such things as the consumer price index, inflation rates, unemployment statistics, housing starts, etc.
