-I will be one of the featured composers on The Composer Next Door, a radio program broadcast from the University of Central Oklahoma, and hosted by Rob Deemer.

-I have recently given several well received demonstrations of the
Electromagnetically- Prepared Piano device:
--In September, at the Universidad Nacional de Lanús, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of their Sonoimágenes Festival.
--In August, at the International Summer Course for New Music at Darmstadt, during the Composer's Forum.

-I am very much looking forward to working on a new commission by Michael Straus for a piece for alto saxophone, electronics and video.


-I will be attending the International Summer Course for New Music at Darmstadt in August.

-Elsewhere is a Negative Mirror, Part I, my first piece to use the Electromagnetically-Prepared Piano device, received honorable mention in the Eastman Computer Music Center twenty fifth anniversary electroacoustic music competition.


-I was commissioned to provide a piece for the 3 day newstage: CCRMA inauguration festival. Negative Mirror Part II, my second piece to utilize the Electromagnetically-Prepared Piano device, was completed just in time.

-My orchestral piece, The Twilight of Our Minds, was performed by the Berkeley Symphony on April 6th as part of their Under Construction Series.

-At the 2006 Spark Festival, Jay Batzner once again presented his paper "Meaning(s) and Structure in Per Bloland's The Wondrous Delight of Profound Ineptitude: A Case Study in Meaning and Electroacoustic Music".


-Brian Sacawa will be recording my piece, Quintet for solo saxophone and live electronics, for a forthcoming CD of the Dal Niente Composers Group.

-The Miami ISCM Chapter has selected my piece Clouds of Oran to be submitted to the World New Music Days being held in Stuttgart in July of 2006.

-The Electromagnetically-Prepared Piano device is up and running! This device was conceived as an extension of my previous work with piano resonance in the piece Thingvellir, and was implemented by Steven Backer and Ed Berdahl of CCRMA. The first composition to utilize it is Elsewhere is a Negative Mirror, Part I, commissioned by SEAMUS/ASCAP.

-TauKay Edizioni Musicali has released their recording of my string quintet Prelude: Dissent.

-At the Spark Festival in Minnesota, I participated as a panelist in the panel session "The Polarized Composer: Addressing the Conflict of Musical Upbringings of Today's Young Composers". The abstract can be downloaded here (from J Anthony Allen's site).

-Jay Batzner delivered his paper "Meaning(s) and Structure in Per Bloland's The Wondrous Delight of Profound Ineptitude: A Case Study in Meaning and Electroacoustic Music" at the 2004 Electronic Music Midwest conference on September 18th, 2004, and will be delivering it again at the 2004 Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities.

-SCI will be publishing two of my compositions: Thingvellir in the upcoming SCI Journal of Scores, and Prelude: Dissent in the CD Series.

-Prelude: Dissent was played at the Contemporanea 2004 festival in Udine, Italy. The performance recording has been released on Taukay Edizioni Musicali.

-We have arrived in Palo Alto! Having finished the Masters program at the University of Texas at Austin, I am now working toward my doctorate at Stanford.

-I was selected as first-prize winner in the SEAMUS/ASCAP Commission Competition for 2004.

-As grand prize winner of the Digital Arts Award, Digital Music category for 2003, I had the privilege of visiting Tokyo.
