Databasing: a Sonnet
by Brian Kunde
To merge base data in a database,
It must be organized, to help retrieve
The information that best fits the case
Of one who uses it; if not, he'll leave.
Your base must be amenable to search,
And must let searchers narrow down results,
For nothing found leaves people in the lurch,
While fifty thousand items just insults.
To manage people's information needs
Is both our job and duty, to be sure:
We prove our worth to everyone who reads;
For those who don't, we haven't got the cure.
To locate what you want, on-line or bound,
You have to have a database around.
