OPENING AT SWAIN LIBRARY Swain Library has an opening for an LSII who will do everything....serials, acquisitions, circulation and reserves. If you are interested in a variety of tasks in a busy branch library (or know someone who is) please submit application and resume to Carol Bickler, Swain Library, mc 5080. Job Description: 45% Serials: Maintain authoritative serials records for Swain Library in both paper format and DataEase on-line records. Read Kardex, initiate claims, place orders and resolve problems. Input data and run DataEase reports for librarian as needed. Train students to check in serials, create item records and bind serials. Train and supervise students doing DataEase entry. Review student work and refine training as necessary. Collects and maintains statistics. 30% Acquisitions/Bibliographic maintenance: Pre-order searching, order and process new materials, follow-up claims and process gifts. Process transfers, cancellations, withdrawals and sublocation changes. Responsible for repair and binding of monographs. Collects and maintains acquisitions statistics. 15% Public Service: opens library in morning, provides assistance at circulation desk, including reference backup for students, using both printed and automated sources. Instruct patrons in use of Socrates and Folio databases. 10% Reserves: process reserves for chemistry and chemical engineering classes, liaison with faculty and TA's to ensure that students have timely access to required materials. Collects and maintains reserve statistics. Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work accurately and independently after training; ability to prioritize; flexibility to move between tasks on short notice; ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment; excellent communications skills in English, (verbal, telephone, written); ability to interact effectively in a small group environment and with a diverse group fo people; accuracy and attention to detail essential; experience with microcomputers, online library systems (UNICORN, FOLIO, RLIN, OCLC, MELVYL); ability to use sound judgment; demonstrated excellent attendance record. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment. Desirable: previous library experience, experience working with the public, subject background in chemistry or chemical engineering; knowledge of the structure and organization of SUL and Stanford. SERG SEEKS A REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN The Science and Engineering Resource Group (SERG) is looking for a bright, talented, and motivated individual with a strong background in science and engineering for a new position, Reference and Instructional Services Librarian. This is a permanent, nine-month position at 75% FTE which will run from September 15 through June 15 each year (30 hours per week for nine months). ZITA ZUKOWSKY RETIRES: 25 YEARS OF SERVICE I will be retiring from Stanford on July 31. After more than 25 years at Stanford, the past 12 at Tanner Library, I'm looking forward to this time for myself. My replacement will be Michele Kelly who is currently working at Falconer Library. Michele will start in mid September. Tanner will be closed during the summer. I would like to thank the many people from various departments at SUL who have been so helpful to me.
