2) Branner Welcomes Three New Staff

ONE...

The Stanford Map Collection found a temporary librarian a few weeks ago, and things are looking good! Phil Hoehn, the former head of the Earth Sciences and Map Library at UC-Berkeley, stepped out of his early retirement at the end of August to fill the role of acting Map Librarian here at Branner.

After receiving his bachelor's in Geography at UCLA, Phil earned his MLS at Berkeley in 1967, and worked there as a Map Librarian under one title or another ever since.

Phil will continue his commute to Stanford from San Francisco twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) until the permanent Map Librarian position is filled. He is directing the majority of his time to collection development and maintenance, and to general reference hours at Branner. Phil currently is also working with Jean Kan to promote university-wide awareness of Map Collection and Services.

Please give Phil a call at 5-1103 (Wednesdays and Fridays only) if you have map-related questions or just want to say hi!

TWO...

Branner's Library's is extremely pleased to welcome Elizabeth Cox as our new Acquisitions/Reserves Specialist. This is a half time position, and Elizabeth's schedule is M-F 10-3:30.

Liz comes to us from the midwest, where she earned her BA in French & German from Western Michigan University in August '96. As an undergrad, she had considerable experience in the library cataloging and database management departments at Western Michigan and the University of South Dakota. She is currently enrolled in San Jose State University's Library Science Program. Please join us in welcoming Elizabeth to her new post!

and THREE!

It is a pleasure to announce the appointment of Heather Murapa as a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) specialist.

Her degree in Geography from Southwest Texas State University and her working experience as a GIS technician for the City of Dallas using GPS and Arc/Info, have lent Heidi the requisite GIS skills. Heather, now working 20 hours a week through end of December, has been working with Jean Kan to enhance and improve the current growing GIS program with the emphasis on the use of ArcView application software for GIS data. You can reach Heather at 5-1103 or hmurapa@sulmail.
