As a participant of the OCLC Internet Cataloging Project (project description available at

SUL catalogers have created catalog records for a number of Internet resources. Like other catalog records, these records are accessible in Socrates by title, issuing body, LC subject heading, and LC classification number, but distinguishable from other records by the location "Networked Electronic Resources" and the presence of an URL (uniform resource locator) instead of a call number. The online resources included in this experimental project were selected by our science bibliographers. Here are some of the titles:

• NASA Center for Aerospace Information Technical Report Server
• Journal of biological chemistry
• Journal of computer-aided molecular design
• InCINC'94: the first International Chemometrics InterNet Conference
• Physical review letters online
• Tobacco Control Archives

There are many questions and issues related to the cataloging of this type of materials, including:

• is a MARC record the appropriate means to provide bibliographic access to some types of Internet resources? What types are those, and what are the alternatives?
• how to maintain the accuracy of such records, as Internet resources are notoriously unstable and fast-changing objects?
• how should relationships between multiple versions, for example a print version and an online version, be expressed so that all access options are clearly presented to the user.
