The Works of Mary Tappan Wright Online

“As novelists go she is one among ten thousand.” —New York Times, April 30, 1904.

The purpose of this site is to preserve and disseminate the works of Mary Tappan Wright, a fine but neglected author from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries who is only remembered today as the mother of Utopian novelist Austin Tappan Wright. A keen observer of the human condition, mankind’s mores and behavior, and both the natural and constructed world in which these play out, her work both reflects her era and transcends it.
Through my small publication house Fleabonnet Press I have gathered and reissued Wright’s short works, most of which had never seen print in book form, in a series of new print and electronic collections. The e-versions have been made available on this site free of charge. Links to other existing online versions of her short works and novels are also provided. By one or the other of these methods, access has been provided here to the complete body of her known published works. Some early works of Austin Tappan Wright are available here as well.
Special thanks to Russ Bernard for the cover images of Aliens and The Test.
