<- Blume, Judy, 1938-
Birth name: Judy Sussman. American author born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, best known for popular novels for young people dealing with controversial social issues. Her adult fiction has been less successful. Formerly married to John Blume and Thomas A. Kitchens; currently married to nonfiction writer George Cooper.
  • <- Are You There, God? It's Me Margaret. 1970.
Deals with the concerns of the narrator, a half-Jewish, half-gentile girl in the sixth grade, with her maturing body and religious identity. May appeal more to girls of the same age than boys. Anathema to religiously and socially narrow-minded adults.
