<- Agee, James, 1909-1955.
Full name: James Rufus Agee. American journalist, social activist, poet, film critic and novelist, best known in life for Let us Now Praise Famous Men (1941), a non-fiction collaboration with photographer Walker Evans. His fame was cemented by his autobiographical novel, published posthumously.
  • <- A Death in the Family. 1957.
Set in Knoxville, Tennessee in the early twentieth century, the novel relates the events surrounding the death of Jay Follet and its effects on his family, particularly his young son Rufus. Based on the author's memories of his own father's early death. Its exploration of issues of grief and religion make the book's story universal. Adapted for stage and screen as All the Way Home (1960 and 1963, respectively).
