Brian's Australia Trip
Section 2
After the conference, several of us flew to the Whitsunday Islands,
on the northeast coast, toward the southeastern end of the Great
Barrier Reef.
The latitude is about 10 degrees south.
There we rented the Fay Marita, a 42 foot sailboat.
After a night in Airlie Beach, we set out for 5 days of sailing.
Gerry and Wally take in some wind!
One of our stops was Hamilton Island.
Here's the group after driving to the top of
the island on our rented golf cart.
Hamilton Island showed signs of prior colonization before our arrival.
There is also an airport and a zoo.
Here Gerry, Wally and Jean chart out the course for the next day.
Here we approach Whitehaven beach.
And here is the beach at Hill Inlet, next to Whitehaven.
Brian shows off his tan at Whitehaven.
Again, plenty of wind.
Jean relaxes, after scrubbing the decks!
In Nara Inlet, there are some Aboriginal rock paintings.
Ironically, this one looks a lot like Gerry. (The photo of the
paintings didn't come out.)
Our last night was at a small resort in Palm Bay on Long Island.
