Ashlyn Aiko Nelson is a postdoctoral fellow in the
Stanford University School of Education.
She holds joint research appointments with Professor Linda Darling-Hammond
and with the Institute for Research on Education Policy and Practice (IREPP).
Prior to her postdoc appointment, Ashlyn earned a PhD in Economics of Education (2005) and MA in Economics (2003) at Stanford,
and was a recipient of the three-year Stanford Graduate Fellowship in Science and Engineering
(SGF). Her doctoral advisor was Susanna Loeb.
Ashlyn obtained bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Economics from the
University of Southern California (2001), where she also earned a preliminary teaching
credential in English. She has a strong commitment to teaching and has taught courses
at Stanford, Estrella Mountain Community College,
Manual Arts High School, and Orville Wright Middle School.
Prior to returning to Stanford for a postdoc, Ashlyn was an
Assistant Vice President of Credit Card Acquisitions at Bank of America, and served as
Customer Advocate of IndyMac Bank, where she specialized in fair lending and credit
risk modeling.
