I'm a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. I currently work with the Image, Video and Multimedia Systems Group led by Prof. Bernd Girod. I started my PhD program in September/2010.
I am a Fulbright Science & Technology Scholar and an Accel Innovation Scholar. I have worked with several companies, such as Google, Technicolor and Arcelor-Mittal. On the science outreach side, I started and am currently an editor of The Global Scientist online magazine
My research focuses on retrieval, classification and compression of multimedia information. More recently, I've been working on query-by-image video search.
I was part of the EigenNews project - where we have explored ways to deliver news videos with an approach that is more personalized, device agnostic, and aware of several information sources.
Before that, I explored semantic indexing of videos , as well as other topics on image/video compression. Some of these were the use of Sparse Coding for compression of natural images and of original measures for video compression and quality monitoring.
My MSc. was completed in July/2010, at the University of Campinas, Brazil. My work towards this degree comprised mainly Video Coding, Information Theory, Communications and Signal Processing.
I completed my BSc. in 2008 in a double degree program between the University of Campinas, Brazil and the Institut National des Sciences Apliquées de Lyon, France, with honors.
