Users:
15,000,000
Demographic:
Geared toward young music enthusiasts in the 15-25 age group.
Design Issues:
Last.fm looks fairly generic as far as sites go. The pages are very simple and not highly customizable,
but layout is very intuitive and easily navigable.
Features: Music is what makes Last.fm special. Users must download the last.fm
application to "scrobble" - or track - their music habits. Last.fm runs in the background on your computer, taking note of the
music you listen to on iTunes or one of many other supported music players. From this data, Last.fm compiles your listening statistics
and makes them available on your user page. These stats include recently-listened tracks, most listened-to artists, and your weekly top-ten.
Taking the music one step further, Last.fm can rate your music compatibility with other users and matches you with "musical neighbors" who spend
time listening to the same music you do. Users can peruse their neighbors' statistics to find new music that may interest them.
Last.fm also houses musical content of its own, wherein a user inside the application or on the Last.fm homepage can listen to customized
Internet radio based on their tastes. Also featured are Widgets, which allow Last.fm functionality to be imported to other sites,
including Facebook and Myspace.
