About

I am a second year Computer Science masters student, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, at Stanford University. Before that I was a Computer Science undergraduate student at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.

I have a keen interest in Data Mining, Search, Information Retrieval and other applications of Machine Learning. Besides this, I am also interested in Distributed Systems and Databases. I believe that the courses I have done at Stanford supplemented by several related course projects and course assignments have helped get a holistic understanding of how the associated theory can be put to practical use.

Some of the relevant courses that I have done are Information Retrieval and Web Search(CS276), Data Mining(CS345a), Machine Learning(CS229), Natural Language Processing(CS224n), Convex Optimization(EE364a) and Artificial Intelligence(CS221). I am TAing Data Mining(CS345a) this quarter. In the past quarter I have TAed Machine Learning(CS229) and Operating Systems and Systems Programming(CS140). In general, I am extremely passionate about computer science especially the aspects which enables me to exploit it for practical use. Hence I love to to keep myself up-to date with all the latest software/hardware technology news.

I spent my summers as an intern at Apple Inc.. I worked on copy-on-write and Open Cache feature of Deep Sky (a Distributed middleware that intends to allow Collaborative workflows and Offline support for all major Apple softwares).

Apart from academics, I am a die hard sports enthusiast. I regularly enjoy playing Squash. When I don't feel like exerting myself, I enjoy hitting golf balls at the Stanford Golf Driving Range. I even took a beginner's course at Stanford, to try and learn the nuances of Golf. In general, I just love to play be it Tennis, Cricket, Badminton or Snooker. When I was a freshman, I used to be really fit and am trying to regain my fitness levels by jogging and playing squash. I have been runners-up in Badminton at Inter Zonal Delhi, India for four successive years. Even in college, I was selected in our college Badminton team to represent IIT Guwahati at inter-IIT.

Besides sports, I love to travel around, explore different places and meet new people. I have explored and enjoyed a few places here in California and some in Europe (Paris, Amsterdam and Spain). I hope to see more of this beautiful and sunny California in the immediate future!
