Mighty Mississippi

Mighty Mississippi is an acoustic Blues trio, seeking to perpetuate country Blues as it was once played on the porches and in the rural saloons of the South in the 1930's and 1940's. In addition, Mighty Mississippi's repertoire follows the musical migration northward during that era, and includes acoustic versions of electric Blues that evolved in the nightclubs and bars of Memphis and Chicago in the 1940's and 1950's. Songs from the modern era, as well as original compositions, are also part of Mighty Mississippi's dedication to preserving and promoting acoustic American folk music rooted in the Blues.

Home to Mighty Mississippi is San Mateo County, along the San Francisco Bay peninsula. Alan Adelman and Allen Capeloto first met there in April of 2007, and began building Mighty Mississippi from their mutual love of the Blues. Russell Kiel joined the band in May of 2008. Together, these three musicians have combined many years of experience in the study and performance of the genre.

Allen Capeloto
Guitar/Vocals

Allen was born in the Pacific Northwest, and raised in Los Angeles. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend Stanford University, where he honed his interest in American folk music, including the Blues. He has resided in the San Francisco area ever since, and has studied the genre at the well-known School of Blues, in San Jose, California.

Alan Adelman
Harmonica/Vocals

Alan was born in New York City and grew up in New Jersey. He began studying and performing classical music at age 11 and attended Ithaca College School of Music before turning to other pursuits. After a long hiatus from playing music, he moved to San Francisco and taught himself to play harmonica so he could perform folk, country, and blues music with some new found Bay Area friends. He has since been a member of several working bands and performed on demo recordings for various local artists.

Russell Kiel
Bass

Russ was born in New Jersey, in the shadow of Manhattan. His father was a piano and organ player, and parlayed these skills into a second source of income. Surrounded by a musical family, Russ was late in coming to the guitar. He started playing when he was 21, after being discharged from the Marine Corps and moving to the Bay Area. Since then, Russ has played guitar, mandolin, electric bass and, most recently, the upright bass - where he finds himself with Mighty Mississippi.
