Ordering an iPhone 3G at Stanford
Models and Pricing
iPhone 3G is available in two models: 8GB (black) and 16GB (black or white).
Pricing:
- New AT&T customers and customers eligible for a device upgrade will pay $199 for the 8GB model (black only), $299 for the 16GB model (black or white).
- Customers not yet eligible for an upgrade have access to an early upgrade price of $399 for the 8GB and $499 for the 16GB.
- If you have had your current phone less than 21 months, you will pay the higher price.
- Equipment discounts do not apply to iPhone 3G or Apple-branded accessories.
Ordering and Activation
To order an iPhone, have your Department Contact submit an order via the OrderIT site (http://orderit.stanford.edu/).
After July 11, from the time your order is placed in OrderIT to the time you are actually using your new upgraded iPhone can be up to seven to ten business days. We are not sure of the volume and process, so we are trying to set realistic expectations at this point. We hope that this process will become streamlined after the initial rush of orders and we can return to our regular service level commitment of five to seven days.
If upgrading your cell phone, your 20-digit sim card number must be included in your order (usually starts with 8901).
Activation:
- Tethering to iTunes is required to complete activation
- Users are not required to set up an iTunes account to use iPhone
- Users cannot purchase or activate new 3G iPhones at the Apple /AT&T Stores
Costs and Service Plans
iPhone 3G requires both a qualified voice and a data plan. Voice plan remains the same as the previous iPhone.

No other data plans, including without limitation pooling plans, are eligible for use with iPhone. Certain voice plans are not eligible for iPhone, including without limitation legacy AT&T Wireless, Dobson, TDMA, and Analog Rate Plans.
