Stanford Wireless Cellular Phone Services for Business Use

Stanford Cellular Phone Policy

All individuals who are provided with or are reimbursed for expenses relating to cellular phones, PDAs, PCs, and like equipment, and communications services (e.g., DSL, cable modem, cellular phone service) in support of University business must comply with Administrative Guide Memo 81.3, "Provision of Mobile Equipment and Related Services," issued December 15, 2008. The policy requires that the employee's supervisor approve the Stanford business need for Equipment/Services. The policy addresses personal use of Equipment/Services as required by the IRS. How to Order a Business Phone

Stanford University has selected AT&T and Sprint as contracted cellular providers. The links below provide the service offerings from each carrier that should best suit your Stanford business needs.

Lost or Stolen Phones

To report a lost or stolen phone, call 5-HELP (650-725-4357) and press 4. A representative will work with your carrier to suspend your service immediately for up to 30 days to allow your Department Contact to order a replacement phone.

Returning Purchase Equipment

If you have a damaged or defective device, you can replace it through a warranty exchange agreement that IT Services maintains with the carriers. You can return a phone within 30 days of purchase. Call 5-HELP (650-725-4357) and press option 4.

Questions or Changes to Your Cellphone Plan

You can make changes to your existing plan anytime of the day or night. The Stanford Mobile Help Desk is available 24/7. Call 5-HELP (650-725-4357) and press option 4. A support representative will be happy to walk you through any questions you may have or to help you with changing call plans (e.g., adding international coverage, text messaging, data plans).

New Service, upgrading phone equipment (getting a new device), and disconnecting service are all handled through Order IT. Give your selected phone and plan information to your Department Contact, who will submit your order via the Order IT web site.
