Printing at the Engineering Labs
Overview
Five Lexmark laser printers are available to console users at the Engineering labs; these can be used to publish plain-text or PostScript data in high (i.e., 1200 dpi) resolution. Printing is a paid service, currently 10¢ per page, and the accounting system is the same as that used by Residential and Academic Computing at dormitory and library public labs; charges are applied against the StanfordCardPlan associated with a user's University ID card.
Getting Started
Basic Printing and Print Management
Information is available on basic printing tasks, including how to count pages, estimate the cost of a print job, and print, monitor, and cancel jobs using basic commands.
Advanced Printing
Advanced printing topics include printing fancy text and manipulating PostScript output, as well using the printers from a remote location, or printing directly to a locally attached printer when connecting remotely.
Special Information, Tips, and Tricks
Certain UNIX applications support printing but may require special consideration. It is also possible to prepare files created by applications on a Mac or PC desktop for printing, or to troubleshoot certain files that print incorrectly, using these tips and tricks.
More Information
To report a hardware failure or other system problem with one of the printers located in the Engineering labs please send e-mail to gc@soe.stanford.edu or tecc@soe.stanford.edu as appropriate. To contest a charge, or to request a refund on the cost of printing for damaged output, submit a HelpSU request.
