Student Telephone Line Service
When you move into your dorm room, you will find a phone with Call Waiting. You don't need to subscribe for this basic service; it’s covered by the technology fee you are billed for each quarter on your University bill.
Basic Phone Service Features
- Place unlimited calls to campus locations.
- Receive incoming calls.
- Place local calls.
- Place free domestic long distance calls.
- Place international long distance calls (using a PBN or a third party calling card).
- Place information calls, 9-411, using a PBN.
No Collect Calls
Basic phone service does not include the ability to receive collect calls; collect calls are blocked outside Stanford, by the local provider.
Leaving or Moving
Disconnect Required for Additional Phone Service.
If you relocate to another unit in the same complex, or to another campus residence, be sure to cancel and re-subscribe to receive additional phone service (see the difference between basic and additional phone service at Student IT Services Sign-up in your new location. It’s your responsibility to do this; if you don’t, you may continue to be billed for the service in the unit you left. See disconnecting your service for instructions.
Phone Numbers Don’t Move
In Stanford student residences, telephone numbers are linked to room numbers. IT Services cannot move your basic service phone number when you move.
Take Care of Listings
You are responsible for:
- Customizing your own Stanford operator information listing via AXESS.
- Getting your Personal Billing Number (PBN). You need your PBN to make international calls or to get directory assistance (9-411). You sign up for PBN service at the My IT Services web site in Axess. All students automatically have access to the site via the Axess web site. Click on the "Student Center" tab. Look under "Other Links" for the My IT Services link.
