Telephone Services for Students

Overview and How to Sign Up

Basic Service. In every on-campus residence, Stanford provides basic phone service with call waiting, including a telephone, and a network connection with multiple IP addresses. This service is billed through your housing bill, and is called the Telecom Fee. The basic telephone offering includes dial-tone, call waiting, free local calling, and free domestic long distance. International long distance calls as well as 411 (directory assistance) calls must be placed using a code called a Personal Billing Number or PBN. The PBN can be ordered on axess.stanford.edu at your My IT Services Site.

Additional Phone Service and Cable TV. If you want an additional phone feature package with voice mail and Caller ID, you can order this on a second line. Both the additional phone service and cable TV are optional services that cost a monthly fee (you must provide your own Caller ID equipment and television set). You can order them axess.stanford.edu at your My IT Services Site.

When you arrive. The basic phone line with call waiting, as well as the in-room network connections will be active when you arrive. The only thing you'll need to do is to register your computer online by going to rescomp.stanford.edu. To determine your telephone number, dial 7-CALL from the residence phone.
