Tech Briefings
Timely Info for Power Users and Stanford's Technology Support CommunityOn this page:
Overview
Held Friday afternoons in Turing Auditorium, Tech Briefings are informal, interactive seminars on computer-related topics of interest to the Stanford community. These sessions are intended for power users, Expert Partners, and those with IT responsibilities, but are open to everyone - faculty, staff, and students. The Tech Briefings, led by knowledgeable ITSS staff, run from 2:00 to 3:30 P.M. No registration is required - just come on by and learn something new. No fees. No fuss.
Turing Auditorium is Room 111 of Polya Hall. See this map to Polya Hall.
The success of these sessions depends on you! Questions from attendees are strongly encouraged. Topics are announced in advance through the techbriefings mailing list and on this web page.
Because we are presenting emerging technical topics, please feel free to contact the Tech Briefing coordinator with any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns. Call Phyllis Olrich at 725-1541 or send email to techbriefings-owner@lists.stanford.edu.

| May 19 | Technical Computing with MATLAB and Simulink NOTE special time – 12:00 to 3:00 (with lunch at 11:30 for those who pre-register). This technical session will demonstrate how MATLAB and Simulink are used as a flexible platform for technical computing and application development in engineering, math, and science curricula and research. MATLAB products provide professors, researchers, and students with the essential tools to prototype ideas, analyze data, and develop large-scale algorithms and applications. Simulink lets you quickly and accurately model, simulate, and implement complex systems including real-time control and signal processing applications. This session will introduce distributed computing with MathWorks tools: The distributed execution of MATLAB algorithms and Simulink models. Please join MathWorks engineers as they discuss the importance of learning MATLAB and Simulink and demonstrate a wide array of MathWorks tools and applications. Register now at: http://www.mathworks.com/seminars/stanford or call 978-659-6104. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 for those who pre-register! Who Should Attend: Professors, researchers, and students. | June 16 | Iron Mountain Connected® Backup/PC: Automatic, Un-intrusive Backup, Reliable Data Recovery, and Unbeatable Security With Iron Mountain Connected® Backup/PC, you can greatly reduce the risks and costs of data loss and minimize recovery time for PCs and laptops. This managed service provides automatic data backup, secure offsite vaulting, and fast recovery. Iron Mountain Connected® Backup/PC data protection makes it possible to:
Equally important, PC Backup & Recovery supports rapid recovery. All the data that’s been backed up from a given PC is available whenever it's needed. Just a few mouse clicks safely retrieves files from a specific account and restores them to any computer with an Internet connection.
