If you need training in a course not listed, please look below for more information on specialized group, online or one-on-one training.
University staff may use up to $800 per fiscal year in Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP) funds with no quarterly limit, for any Technology Training Services course(s).
You can check STAP usage and balance in STARS by opening a web browser and going to http://axess.stanford.edu. Log in to Axess using your SUNet ID. Click on: Training > STAP Balance. Your STAP balance will include all training from both internal and external training providers.
Customized Group Classes
In addition to offering the scheduled classes listed below, we can also set up customized classes for your department or group. To request a special class, fill out the information at http://techtraining.stanford.edu/special.html, or call us at 723-4391.
Training by Appointment
These highly successful one-on-one, customized training sessions can be the answer to your training needs. Instructors can be very responsive to immediate training needs, and sometimes even make on-site visits for training, if necessary. To sign up for a personalized 1-on-1 training session, go to the Training by Appointment page.
TechPort: Online Technology Training
Technology changes quickly, but fortunately IT Services has found a convenient way to help you keep up. In partnership with SkillSoft, the leading provider in online training, IT Services offers TechPort: 24x7 access to:
- Over 1600 online, self-paced, technology-related courses, and
- Thousands of online technology-related books.

Complete course information is in STARS, which is available via the Axess Portal at http://axess.stanford.edu. A SUNet ID is required. To see course descriptions and times and to enroll:
- Login to Axess by going to http://axess.stanford.edu and clicking the "Login" button.
- After logging in, click on the "Training" tab at the top of the page. (Note: If the "Training" tab is not present on your page, click the "My Home" link instead.)
- To see what IT Services courses are available, click on "Browse Catalog" in the STARS Menu along the left side of the page.
- Then click on the "Computing and Computing-related" category to see all IT Services courses currently offered.
- Select the course you are interested in. If the course is being offered that particular quarter, follow the instructions to enroll. Note: Adding to Plan does NOT enroll you.
- If you need help using STARS, click the "STARS Help" link along the left side of the page.
