To subscribe someone other than yourself, send the message "subscribe oracle-discuss <email address>".

Technical Support

Metalink, at http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_gui.startup, is Oracle Corporation's main online technical support center. You will find helpful information, including white papers, patches, and product version certifications. You can submit TARs (Technical Assistance Requests) to Oracle's Customer Support Staff on-line, or see what TARs others in your area have submitted. Before using Metalink, you must have an account created for you. If you would like a Metalink account, please fill out this  Request Form. You will be notified via email when your account is activated.

The Oracle Technology Network, or Technet, at technet.oracle.com, is another web site from which to get technical support. You can read white papers and download software (which still must comply with Stanford's Oracle Contract). The first time you enter, you will be asked to create an account.

Oracle also offers some online magazines. Check out http://www.oracle.com/oramag/ for subscription information for both Oracle Magazine and Profit Magazine.

Other Oracle Training-Oracle Corporation offers the Oracle Learning Network, at www.oracle.com/education/oln/ for a fee; or you may sign up for a free trial, if you prefer.

If there is a specific topic that you feel would be of wide interest, submit a software support request, and we will help you to organize a technical session on campus.

Ordering Documentation

Oracle no longer ships manuals with their software, but usually includes an On-Line Documentation CD with every Server and Client. Some documentation can be downloaded and printed from Metalink, at metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_gui.startup, or from the Oracle Technology Network, technet.oracle.com. However, many documents are too large to print, so you may want to purchase a copy.

Stanford University Oracle users are entitled to receive a 30% educational discount on documentation purchases. The Oracle Store is located at oraclestore.oracle.com. If you do not have an account there, please create one before you proceed.

When you are ready to place your order, use this URL instead: oraclestore.oracle.com/coupon/. If you have already created an account, you will be recognized by your Stanford address as being entitled to the discount.

You'll get a brief message to "please stand by", and then you will be asked to enter a code. Type DOC30 (must be CAPS). This will bring you to the discount site. As you place your order, and fill your shopping basket, you will see the discounted prices. When you get to the final checkout, you have a choice of using either a credit card or PO. If you use a PO, you will have to print out your order and fax it along with the PO.
