How do I obtain one of the licensed products? Go to the Software List and click on the product for more information. Then click on the order form, fill it out, including the account number to charge. If there is no detailed information or order form for the product you want, please use the inquiry form.
We will contact you when we have processed your order and you may pick up a copy of the software from our office. Generally, you are buying a license only, and we will loan you the media to install the software.
- When do you decide to license something?
Our Software Licensing Office becomes involved in negotiating campus licenses when there is a high and broad level of interest in a particular software product. In addition, we must be able to secure pricing that is significantly lower than campus clients could get on their own.
If you know of a product that you think may fall into this category, please contact us. Any research you do in advance is helpful, including finding out if others on campus share your interest in the product.
- Where can students buy software?
Most software is available at the Stanford Bookstore. They have a small selection of Microsoft and Adobe software for very special low contracted prices, plus lots more software at discounted academic prices. Essential Stanford Software, recommended software programs available at no charge, may be downloaded from the ESS web site. More software is available for use in the student residences, academic computer clusters, and the remote access UNIX Computing Resources.
- Can software be installed on home machines and laptops, or overseas?
It depends on the terms of the license agreement. Each one is unique, so please check with us.
