Stanford Network Self-Registration

The Stanford Network Self-Registration (SNSR) service combines a web-based self-registration application and the Stanford Network Registration Tool (SNRT) to streamline registration of computers on the Stanford Nework. In addition to making the process of network registration easier, it is also designed to improve desktop security and the accuracy of network records. Through the use of NetDB template options, the system accommodates some custom configuration — on a network segment basis — by local network administrators (LNAs) for their wired networks. Self registration is also available for computers accessing Stanford's centrally-supported wireless networks.

SNSR was introduced in September, 2009, as a major upgrade to the existing Host Self-Registration service that first began operation in 2006. It is available to Stanford academic and administrative departments who administer their own wireless networks.

Service levels

All network systems are monitored 24/7 for performance and component failures. Networking personnel are alerted to failures and will respond to alerts. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. No after hours support is available for the SNSR service, other than support required to ensure the functionality of the SNSR servers and the associated IT Services network devices. Scheduled maintenance windows are: Thursday, 4–6 a.m., Saturday, 5–8 a.m., and Sunday, 5–8 a.m.

Rates

Stanford Network Self-Registration, including software, documentation, and support is a centrally-funded service provided free-of-charge to the Stanford community.

How to order

To have this service added to a wired network, an LNA should request assistance from a Department Network Engineer via HelpSU.
