bzip2 1.0.3

Summary

Description: Very good but slow data compression
Source: http://sourceware.redhat.com/bzip2/

Support

This package is available for all platforms. This package is unsupported and provided on an as-is basis.

Description

bzip2 is a freely available, patent free, high-quality data compressor. It typically compresses files to within 10% to 15% of the best available techniques, whilst being around twice as fast at compression and six times faster at decompression.

bzip2 tends to get 15-20% better compression than gzip at the cost of being 4-10 times slower.

Changes

1.0.3 2005-02-17

Fix issues with extracting from corrupted compressed data. Fix compilation on 64 bit platforms and with newer versions of gcc. Fix BZ_NO_STDIO cpp symbol that was not properly observed in 1.0.2.

1.0.2 2002-07-10

Lots of fairly minor bug and documentation fixes, including a fix for one possible permission setting race condition.
