binutils 2.16.1
Summary
Description: Manipulate object and executable files
Source: http://www.gnu.org/software/binutils/
Support
This package is available for all platforms. This package is unsupported and provided on an as-is basis.
Description
This GNU package contains a broad selection of programs to manipulate object files and executables. It includes an assembler and a linker.
We prefer to use the vendor utilities where they work well rather than replace them with the GNU versions. All of the programs from this package are installed on Linux, since GNU binutils are the default utilities on Linux. addr2line, objcopy, objdump, and readelf are installed for all platforms. GNU as (the assembler) is installed for HP-UX because the vendor assembler has serious deficiencies. GNU as and GNU ld are installed on Solaris because they provide better C++ support.
